So… How does it all work?
Review Our Policies
-
Learning an instrument is a journey, and meaningful progress comes through consistency. Our membership options are designed to help students build momentum, stay motivated, and enjoy steady growth through music education programs that fit their goals and schedule.
At Sonic Labs, your membership reserves a dedicated spot in our program and a consistent time slot on your teacher’s calendar. We encourage all of our students to explore our Weekly Membership, as consistent attendance and sustained practice are among the greatest predictors of musical growth.
We also offer a Flexible Membership and individual lessons. All of our membership options are designed to provide an encouraging community, as well as continued instruction, support, and accountability throughout the year.
-
Weekly or Flexible Membership
Tuition is billed as a recurring monthly membership fee.
Your membership includes:
Weekly or twice-monthly private lesson
Weekly band/ensemble, if enrolled in that track
Curriculum and learning materials*
Practice resources
Student performances and recitals
Priority and discounted tickets to special member events and workshops
Your membership reserves your instructor’s time and your place in the program, regardless of how many lessons occur in a particular month.
*Learning materials outside of what is included in our curriculum—such as books, sheet music, and charts—must be purchased by the student and are not included in the monthly membership fee. Your instructor will provide guidance on any required materials.
Billing
Membership tuition is automatically charged on the 1st of each month.
If a payment cannot be processed, we will notify you promptly.
Accounts that are more than 10 days overdue may have lessons paused until payment is received.
First-Month Proration
Your first month of membership will be prorated based on a four-week lesson cycle.
For example, if you enroll in the middle of a month and will receive two lessons during your first month, your first month's tuition will be discounted by 50%.
Individual Lessons
Non-members must pay for individual lessons in full at the time of booking.
Individual lessons are non-refundable.
Enrollment Fee
A $25 enrollment fee will be applied to all new membership subscriptions.
Annual CalendarSonic Labs Music Academy operates on a yearly teaching calendar.
Some months contain five lesson weeks, while others contain fewer lesson weeks due to holidays and scheduled closures. Tuition remains the same each month because membership pricing is averaged across the entire year.
This allows families to budget consistently while ensuring our instructors receive dependable income throughout the year.
-
Membership Cancellation
Membership may be canceled at any time with 15 days' notice before your next scheduled tuition charge.
A formal written cancellation notice sent via email to soniclabsma@gmail.com is the only acceptable way to provide notice of membership cancellation. Informing your teacher of your intent to cancel does not constitute formal notice.
Your membership remains active during the notice period. No refunds will be provided for unused lessons following cancellation.
-
Student Absences
If you cannot attend your scheduled lesson, please notify us as early as possible.
Members
Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours' notice are not eligible for a makeup.
Lessons canceled with at least 24 hours' notice may receive one of the following, when available:
A makeup lesson
An alternate lesson time
Makeup lessons are offered based on instructor availability and are not guaranteed.
*Band/ensemble classes are not eligible for makeup lessons.
Makeup Credit Limits
Students may accumulate a maximum of 3 makeup credits at any given time.
Makeup credits expire 90 days from the date they are issued.
Makeup credits also expire when a membership is canceled.
*Regularly canceling lessons can significantly inhibit a student's progress. We understand that breaks, vacations, and unexpected circumstances are part of life, but we strongly discourage frequent cancellations.
Non-Members
Individual lessons canceled with at least 24 hours' notice may be rescheduled within 30 days, subject to instructor availability.
Only one reschedule is permitted per individual lesson.
Individual lessons are non-refundable.
Instructor AbsencesIf your instructor is unavailable, Sonic Labs will provide one of the following:
A substitute instructor
A makeup lesson
Account credit if neither option is possible
If account credit is issued because of an instructor absence, the credit will not count toward the student's 3-credit makeup maximum.
Missed LessonsIf a student misses a scheduled lesson without notice, the lesson is considered forfeited.
This policy allows instructors to make productive use of their scheduled teaching hours and helps us maintain a consistent schedule for all students.
-
Sonic Labs follows an annual academic calendar.
The academy observes scheduled holidays and closures throughout the year. Closures are published before each calendar year begins.
Tuition remains unchanged during scheduled breaks. Membership pricing is calculated over the full academic year and takes scheduled holidays and breaks into account.
Typical Schedule
Closed
Christmas Eve through New Year's Day
Marathon Monday
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Thanksgiving Day through Sunday
One professional development day each year
Open
February Vacation
April Vacation, except Marathon Monday
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Presidents' Day
Indigenous Peoples' Day
Veterans Day
Weather Closures
If severe weather requires the academy to close, lessons may be:
Moved online
Rescheduled
Made up at a later date
The academy will communicate weather-related closures as early as possible.
-
We understand that schedules change. Members may temporarily pause their Weekly or Flexible Membership for vacations, medical leave, or other extended absences.
Memberships may be frozen for a minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 8 weeks.
We ask for at least 14 days' notice whenever possible.
Memberships may be frozen once per calendar year.
Tuition payments will be paused during the freeze period.
We will make every reasonable effort to reserve your regular lesson time during a membership freeze. If scheduling changes or enrollment growth make this impossible, we will work with you to find the closest available lesson time upon your return.
Freeze Eligibility
Members who have been enrolled for 6 consecutive months are eligible for a membership freeze.
A freeze or unfreeze of a membership is different from canceling and later re-enrolling. The enrollment fee will apply when re-enrolling a student after cancellation. Students using the Membership Freeze option do not need to re-enroll and will not be charged another enrollment fee.
-
Arrival & Late Arrivals
Students should arrive 5 minutes before their scheduled lesson.
Late arrivals will receive the remaining time in their scheduled lesson. Lessons will not be extended to make up for time lost due to late arrival, as doing so could affect students scheduled afterward.
-
Parents are welcome to observe beginner lessons when appropriate.
As students become more independent, we encourage parents to allow students to participate in lessons on their own. This helps students build confidence, focus, and independence.
-
Progress depends heavily on consistent practice outside of lessons.
Instructors will recap lesson goals and assign weekly practice goals appropriate to each student's level. These assignments will be reflected in the MyMusicStaff Portal, allowing students and parents to refer back to their assignments at any time.
Families are encouraged to support regular practice at home.
-
Parents and students are encouraged to communicate through the MyMusicStaff Portal whenever possible rather than using personal messaging.
Questions for instructors can be posted in the portal. Using the portal helps ensure consistent communication, keeps important information organized, and promotes a healthy work-life balance for our instructors.
Questions or comments for Sonic Labs administration can be sent to soniclabsma@gmail.com.
-
Sonic Labs occasionally photographs or records lessons, performances, and events for educational and promotional purposes.
Families may opt out of photo and video use by notifying the academy in writing.
-
If a student is experiencing a contagious illness or fever, we ask that they remain home.
When possible, an online lesson may be offered instead.Item description
-
Students should bring all required books, music, and instruments to each lesson.
Repeatedly arriving without the necessary materials or instruments may slow a student's progress.
-
Student showcases and recitals are an important part of the Sonic Labs experience.
Participation is encouraged but not required.
-
These policies exist to create consistency, fairness, and the best possible learning environment for every student.
We know life doesn't always go as planned, and when exceptional circumstances arise, we're always happy to have a conversation. Our goal is to help every student continue learning while treating every family fairly and every instructor with respect.
